Upminster Cemetery

In 2017 Upminster Cemetery was named Large Cemetery of the Year.  The cemetery has received the prestigious Gold Award from London in Bloom judges each year, since 2014 and in 2021 the cemetery earned the title Category Winner.

In 2025 the cemetery won the APSE Cemeteries and Crematoria Innovation Award for its creative approach to the cemetery extension providing an additional 6000 graves.  The innovative project prevented the displacement of water into existing graves or surrounding land, including Cranham Marsh, home to the European protected species, the Great Crested Newt.

Upminster Cemetery is popular with families throughout the borough and beyond and frequent visitors find themselves making friends in the adjacent Tea Room, in the grounds of South Essex Crematorium.
